Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO, CALIF - The Chico Outlaws continue to prepare for their upcoming 2008 season, but the defending Golden Baseball League champions are also taking time to help the Chico Unified School District remedy the budgetary challenge of maintaining high school sports programs. In a joint announcement Friday by Chico Schools Superintendent Kelly Staley and Outlaws President Bob Linscheid, the Outlaws will host a special exhibition game Wednesday, May 28 at Nettleton Stadium, with all net proceeds from advanced ticket sales benefiting the CUSD Athletic Fund.

"This is the Outlaws small way to help the schools that are in desperate need of community support," Linscheid said Friday. "High school athletics are much more than just after-school activities; they are absolutely essential in building character and leadership skills. The Outlaws want to do their part to keep all current athletic programs in place."

The game, scheduled for 7:05pm, will feature a unique format: the Outlaws will split their squad, with half teaming up with Chico High School players; the other half with players from Pleasant Valley High School. "Open seating" tickets for the exhibition fundraiser are $10 each and will be available beginning Monday through Chico schools and local businesses, including the Chico Enterprise-Record, Lyon Books and Mac's Baseball School. Tickets can also be purchased through both Chico and Pleasant Valley High's administrative offices.

For an additional contribution of $100, individuals may sit in a special "Chico Sports Hero" section behind home plate where they will be waited on and serenaded by district administrators and officials. For more information visit the CUSD website at www.chicousd.org.
