Las Vegas Outlaws News Release
Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Outlaws and the local aerospace and data services company, ArrowData, today announced they are making football history when a drone camera enters the Thomas & Mack Center to capture live footage of the Outlaws vs. Gladiators game this Sunday. This will mark the first time ever that a drone is flown overhead during a live professional football game 1).
"We can't wait to break new ground this Sunday with ArrowData to deliver a new live televised and in-arena experience for Las Vegas Outlaws fans," said Executive Vice President Patrick Dees. "When we started the Outlaws, it was our intention to raise the bar in Arena Football with cutting-edge drone technology and a series of new digital innovations."
The ArrowData-owned drone will deliver stunning live HD footage of the game for the Outlaws national television partners, ESPN and CBS Sports, as well as for fans inside the arena. Retired U.S.A.F. pilot Mario Wilson, who flew unmanned aircraft including Predators and Reapers over Iraq and Afghanistan during his time in the military, will operate the drone at the Outlaws game Sunday.
"We are excited to be the first to fly a drone over a professional football field, and to do it with the Outlaws and the Arena Football League," said James Fleitz, Vice President, ArrowData. "The camera angles the drone provides is ideal for sports, especially the intense, fast-action of Arena Football. This technology is perfect to capture this game like never before."
ArrowData recently became the first company in the state of Nevada to receive Federal Aviation Administration approval to operate drones for news media purposes 2). In addition to operating and selling drones, ArrowData also specializes in persistent data collection, transmission, analytics and distribution services in aerospace.
In September 2014, it was announced that Arena Football would be coming back to Las Vegas with the Outlaws. Since then, the Outlaws have been building its coaches and players roster, securing national television deals and pursuing local business sponsors including Dollar Loan Center. This Sunday, the Outlaws will play its 10th game of the season vs. the Cleveland Gladiators.
