Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO, CA - For the second straight night, the Chico Outlaws - who averaged over nine runs and 13 hits during their recently completed 10-game road trip - were held to just seven hits by Reno pitching, while the Silver Sox piled up 14 safeties en route to a 5-2 victory Saturday night at Nettleton Stadium...Reno handing Chico their second straight and third consecutive home defeat.

As was the case on the 4th of July, Ryan Brown got the ball rolling for Reno in the 2nd inning with a two-out solo homer off Outlaws starting pitcher Jason Roach. Before the inning ended, the Silver Sox scored twice more - Doug Sanders doubled, and following a walk to Ryan Crespi, came home on a base hit by Gary Harris...Crespi moving to third. When Roach threw to first to keep Harris (the Golden Baseball League's top base stealer) close to the bag, Crespi broke for home and beat Todd Gossage's throw to the plate to give Reno a 3-0 lead. The Outlaws answered with a run in the bottom of the 3rd - Steve Boggs singled home Matt Ceriani to make the score 3-1.

It stayed that way until the 6th when Reno went up 5-1 - with Nick Casanova on in relief for Chico, Harris reached when Shane Cronin lost a routine fly ball in the twilight. Harris promptly stole second and came home on a double by Juan Senreiso...McCoy followed with a base hit, and when Cronin bobbled the ball in left field, Senreiso came around to score on the error. Chico plated what would be their final run in the 7th - Ceriani scoring on a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Jesse Kovacs - but could only manage one more hit the rest of the way, as Silver Sox relievers Andrew Alvarado and Mitch Arnold combined two shutout innings...Arnold, making his mound debut for Reno, struck out the side to end it and give the Silver Sox their seventh win in the last 11 games.

Former major leaguer Kevin Frederick (1-1) tossed seven solid innings, allowing just two unearned runs on six hits to pick up the victory, with Arnold posting his first save of the season...Roach (0-6) pitched well, giving up just three runs in five innings of work, but was tagged with the loss. Ceriani led the Outlaws offense with a 3-for-4 night, while Harris paced the Silver Sox with three hits...Crespi, Senreiso and Carlos Madrid added two apiece as Reno improves to 14-22 on the season; Chico drops to 12-25 on the year. The Outlaws look to avoid a sweep Sunday as they send left-hander Trevor Caughey (3-2) to the mound in the series finale...the Silver Sox are expected to start righty Steve Russell (3-4). First pitch is 6:05pm...hear all the action with Rory Miller calling the play-by-play on ESPN Radio 101.7 FM and AM 1340; the game can also be heard on-line at www.ChicoOutlawsBaseball.com.
