
Armada shutout Calgary...again

Long Beach Armada News Release
Long Beach has done something that no other GBL team has been able to do, and they have done it on back to back nights--shutout the Calgary Vipers.
The Armada defeated Calgary 6-0 and now improved their record to 17-18 and are riding a three game winning streak into Sunday's series finale against the top team in the GBL North Division.
Newly agquired pitcher Jonathan Figueroa (1-0) made a spectacular debut for the Armada going 5 innings while giving up no runs on 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 7. He last played in 2007 for the Great Lakes Loons, the Single A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The hit parade goes on for the Armada as CF Steve Moss continues his 5 game hitting streak (all 5 gmes have been since returning from a shoulder injury). Moss went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored. RF Chris Klemm went 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored. C Octavio Martinez hot a sacrifice fly to knock in a run as did SS Mike Glomb who had 2 RBI in this game. 3B Ryan Lehr had the biggest game of all the batters going 3 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI and a run scored.
Vipers starter Nathan Melek (2-2) got his second loss going 4 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 9 hits while walking 1 and striking out 3. Calgary could manage only four hits in the game. 1B Carlos Duncan, SS Nelson Castro, CF Colin Moro, and 3B Travis Drader each had one hit.
Tomorrows probable starters are: Long Beach: newly signed Steve Smyth (0-0) Calgary: Jordy Alexander (3-3). Game time is 5:05 PM Pacific and can be heard at www.longbeacharmada.com.
