
Outfielder Bryce Brentz Named Carolina League Topps Player of the Month for August

SALEM, VA - Salem Red Sox outfielder Bryce Brentz of Knoxville, Tennessee, has been named Topps Player of the Month in the Carolina League for the Month of August. Brentz, 22, compiled a .321 batting average with 7 home runs, 23 RBI, .397 on-base percentage and a .575 slugging percentage over 28 games during the month. The announcement was made by Carolina League President John Hopkins.
Brentz, Boston's first-round pick (36th overall) in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Middle Tennessee State University, was promoted to Advanced-A Salem in late May after hitting .359 with 11 home runs in 40 games for Single-A Greenville. In 75 games with Salem, Brentz has hit .274 with 19 home runs and 58 RBI in 288 plate appearances. Brentz led Boston's entire minor league system with a .306 batting average and 94 RBI and the young outfielder's 30 combined home runs in 2011 was the second highest total in the organization behind 2010 Salem catcher Ryan Lavarnway.
