
OurSports Central announces AFL Players of the Week

May 13, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
San Jose SaberCats quarterback Mark Grieb, Tampa Bay Storm defensive back Traco Rachal and Georgia Force kicker Carlos Martinez were named the OurSports Central Arena Football League Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for week eleven of the AFL season.
Grieb was 28-35 (80%) for 289 yards and eight touchdown passes in the SaberCats' 62-43 victory over the Arizona Rattlers.
Rachal had the game clinching interception and 11.5 tackles in the Storm's 41-37 victory over the New Orleans VooDoo.
Martinez was 8-9 on extra points, had four touchbacks on kickoffs and one successful onside kick at the end of the game in the Force's 63-62 victory over the Philadelphia Soul.
Other players considered for Offensive honors were San Jose WR Rodney Wright, Dallas QB Clint Dolezel, Dallas WR Marcus Nash, Grand Rapids WR Kenny Higgins and Utah QB Joe Germaine.
Others considered for Defensive award were San Jose DB Marquis Floyd, Cleveland DL Joe Minucci, Kansas City DL Gillis Wilson, Colorado DL Aaron McConnell, and Utah DB Reggie Doster.
Other players considered for Special Team honors included Kansas City's Joel Myers (two returns for 64 yards, including a 56 yard return for a touchdown), New York's Levy Brown (six returns for 129 yards), San Jose's A.J. Haglund (9-9 on extra points), Arizona's Eric Houle (4-4 on extra points and 2-2 on field goals), and Grand Rapids Brian Gowins (6-7 on extra points and 2-2 on field goals).
