EVANSVILLE, Ind. - When players decide to continue their baseball career in independent baseball, many travel from across the country to play in the Frontier League. This means that they are hours away from friends and family members. For this reason, when they arrive in Evansville, they look for a touch of home to make them feel welcome.

"We are fortunate to have so many wonderful families open their homes to our baseball players each summer," said Otters General Manager Joel Padfield. "Unfortunately, we are a little short of host families right now and are looking for a few more host families. It is a great program with some incredible benefits and we hope you will adopt an Otters player this summer."

Host family responsibilities include providing room/board for the player, understanding their four month baseball schedule, encouraging them to be members of your family and supporting the player on the journey to play major league baseball.

Player responsibilities include adhering to the host family rules, participating as a member of the family, provide his own transportation to/from the ballpark, wash/dry his own laundry and pay for his own long distance phone calls.

Host families and players are asked to complete a questionnaire before they are matched. This enables the Otters to match a player with the appropriate family. We do everything we can to ensure a suitable match is made for both the player and family.

Those interested in becoming a host family should contact Sally Gries, the Otters host family coordinator. She can be reached at (812) 568-4782 or by email at hostfamilies@evansvilleotters.com .

The Otters begin the 2015 season at home on Friday, May 15 when they host the Traverse City Beach Bums in a 6:35 p.m. game at Historic Bosse Field.

This year is the upcoming 100th Anniversary of Bosse Field's first ballgame in 1915. The Otters will have a year-long celebration to commemorate the event with more details to be released at a future date.

Businesses interested in participating with the Otters can contact the team front office at (812) 435-8686.
