Ottawa SkyHawks News Release
Ceased, thwarted, ended, call it what you will but there is no doubt Ottawa's soaring SkyHawks cannot only handle the heat, but dish it too. When it comes to stepping up to the challenge, the SkyHawks are no strangers. Just earlier this month, they went toe to toe with the Brampton A's and put a halt to their five point winning streak leaving the final score at an impressive 102-114.
The SkyHawks stepped on the court tonight looking to rebound after last night's close game where the team lost to the London Lightning at home with the final buzzer ringing in a score of 100-105. Shot selection was a large culprit in last night's defeat with the SkyHawks only hitting 5-of-27 buckets from the three-point range. However, that didn't stop the SkyHawks from attempting to steal a consecutive upset win from the A's.
Brampton, the best team in the league, had a few reasons they wanted to win tonight as well. The first being that another loss would bump up their well-earned 9-3 record down to 9-4 placing them further away from contention for the top seed spot in the NBL. Secondly, Brampton leads the league in 3-pt field goals made, defensive rebounds, and total scoring offense meaning another upset loss to the same team.
The gates went down and the SkyHawks came out swinging with a feisty start doubling the A's six point score just minutes into the game. The SkyHawks rounded the first quarter leading at 28-21 with Ryan Anderson dumping six points into the basket and also leading his team in total rebounds with four.
Ottawa dominated much of the second quarter making the A's sweat by keeping a steady 10-12 point lead and managing an impressive 18 points on the A's as their biggest lead in the second going into half.
Seems like the whole team got in on the action tonight across the board with the average total points sitting around 6 going into the second half. With the third period well under way, the SkyHawks fought to keep the A's at bay again managing to hold them back at a steady 12 points.
As third quarter ended the SkyHawks went into fourth up with a smashing 22 point lead and 43 total rebounds. As the point gap increased, so did the SkyHawks' confidence in finishing the game with a solid score and leaving their fans with a record breaking franchise record of 129-108.
Ottawa's very own Eric Kibi showcased his talent tonight making some big moves on the court in the final quarter where he had fans jumping out of their seats. He not only managed to tie the teams previous franchise record of 126 points but surpassed it, helping the SkyHawks cruise to a cool 129-108.
When asked if he thought this would translate into more playing time and opportunities, Eric Kibi, Ottawa's local talent, had this to say " I hope so, hopefully it'll give me more playing time... if not, I'm just going to stay ready, keep working hard, and stay in the gym and just go from there"
When asked about Kibi's performance on the court tonight, coach Jaren Jackson said "He's a great player ... the team was excited for him and so was I" when asked to further elaborate on the new franchise record, Jaren replied "our team knows how to put it down, we have a very versatile team making for some really solid players who know what they're doing"
