Mill Rats Fend off Rainmen

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats got back in the win column fending off the Rainmen, 107-102, and spoiling new Rainmen Head Coach Craig Hodges' debut in the process.

The Mill Rats spotted Halifax a quick 7-2 run before getting back into the game, but still trailed 23-21 after one quarter. The score was 53-53 when Anthony Anderson drilled a jumper just inside halfcourt to beat the halftime buzzer, giving the home squad a 3 point advantage at intermission.

A 20-4 run by the Mill Rats to start the third quarter, punctuated by a two handed alley oop slam from Anderson to Doug Herring Jr., pushed the lead to 16 at 73-57. Saint John led 86-76 going into the fourth quarter. The Rainmen cut the lead to within 4 but Saint John was able to hold on and win 107-102.

Anthony Anderson led Saint John with 25 points, Doug Herring Jr scored 21, and Chris Matthews had 21 off the bench. Cheyne Gadson led Halifax with 22.

Saint John's record improves to 7-4 and maintains first place in the Atlantic Division. Halifax remains winless at 0-7.

The Mill Rats next home game is Sunday December 8th at 4:00PM vs. the Ottawa SkyHawks who are now led by Head Coach Jaren Jackson and former Mill Rat guard, Jerice Crouch.
