Ottawa Renegades Sign Two Offensive Linemen
April 22, 2002 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA â Monday, April 22, 2002 â The Ottawa Renegades have announced today that they have agreed to terms with two Import offensive linemen, as center-guard Curtice Macfarlane and tackle Curtis McGee have joined the fledgling Canadian Football League franchise.
Both players, who each played in the XFL last season, join their first CFL club.
Macfarlane comes to the Renegades after spending the 2001 season with both the San Francisco Demons of the XFL and the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League. The 27-year-old San Jose State grad, who played all five offensive line positions with the Spartans, which included his senior season when he was named the school's Most Outstanding Lineman in 1997, is entering his fifth season as a pro. The 6'3", 295-pounder has also attended a National Football League training camp with the Baltimore Ravens in 2000.
McGee, 28, who is also entering his fifth professional campaign, is a former two-time All-Star at Georgia Tech. The 6'5", 285-pounder, who was a member of the NFL-Europe-champion Frankfurt Galaxy in 1999, has also spent time in the NFL with the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, and St. Louis Rams, as well as with the XFL's New York/New Jersey Hitmen in 2001.
"The addition of these two young men is a major boost to our offensive line," explained general manager Eric Tillman. "In the earliest days of our organization, this was an area of major concern which now appears to be developing into a team strength. When you are a team with young quarterbacks, it's hard to overestimate the importance of a solid group of offensive linemen."
Professional football returns to the nation's capital this spring as the Ottawa Renegades open up their inaugural training camp on June 1st. The regular season kicks off on June 28 against the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders at Frank Clair Stadium.
