Ottawa Edges Rangers 5-4 in Overtime

The Ottawa 67's claimed a 5-4 overtime victory over the Kitchener Rangers.

Cimadamore opened up the scoring early in the first period to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Gabriel Landeskog advanced Kitchener 2-0 with a power play goal at the 9:47 mark. Ottawa's Tyler Toffoli made it a one-goal game with 1:57 remaining in the period. Ottawa had an 11-7 shooting edge over the Rangers in the period.

Kitchener scored two unanswered goals in the second period to take a 4-1 lead after 40-minutes of play. Dan Kelly tapped in his sixth of the season on a Rangers power play at 1:55. With just 40-seconds left and 1-second after an Ottawa penalty expired, Jason Akeson beat 67's netminder Chris Perugini with his 24th goal of the season. Kitchener outshot Ottawa 14-8 during the period.

Ryan Hanes tightened the gap 4-2 for Ottawa with his first goal of the season at 6:15 of the third period. Cody Lindsay backhanded the puck past Rangers goaltender Brandon Maxwell at 16:18 to make it a one-goal game. Corey Cowick pushed the game into overtime action after he scored with 25 seconds left in the game to tie the score 4-4.

Ottawa's Julien Demers scored the game-winning goal at 2:57 in the overtime period.

The Rangers travel to Erie this Sunday for a 4:30pm game against the Otters. They will return to home ice on Friday, March 5th to host the Otters at 7:30pm.
