Game Notes:

Future Senator Linemates=3F

67's left winger Shane Prince will have a pair of future teammates in town this Friday night and Sunday afternoon in the Peterborough Petes Matt Puempel and Plymouth Whalers Stefan Noesen. Noesen, Puempel and Prince were all Ottawa Senators high draft picks this past summer. Noesen and Puempel were both picked in the first round, 21st and 24th overall, respectively. Shane Prince would be the Senators next pick taken in the second round, 61st overall.

Petes - Rich in History

The Petes and 67's both share an illustrious history when it comes to producing NHL level talent. The Petes have had numerous notable players and coaches make it to the "show" during their existence. A pair of legendary coaches, Scotty Bowman and Roger Neilson, both led the Petes during their Hall of Fame careers. On the ice, the Petes have featured NHL "ironman" Doug Jarvis who holds the NHL record for most consecutive games played. In terms of a player turning GM there is few better than Nepean-raised Steve Yzerman. On the defensive side, Chris Pronger suited up for the Petes from 1991-93 and more recently the Petes have had NHL stars Eric Staal and Jordan Staal.

Local Talent

The Petes dress a number of local players who play big roles on the Petes team. Ottawa born and raised Alan Quine is off to a very quick start with Peterborough leading the team in scoring through their first five games. Overager Joey West hails from east end Orleans and highly touted 2012 NHL draft hopeful Slater Koekkoek patrols the blueline for the Petes. Koekkoek always has a big following in the Ottawa stands as many family and friends make the trip from his hometown of Mountain, Ontario.

Plymouth Whalers @ Ottawa 67'sSunday, October 9, 20112:00 PM - J. Benson Cartage Centre

Head to Head:

This Season: Plymouth beat Ottawa 3-2 in their first of two meetings on Friday, September 30th. Sean Monahan scored both of Ottawa's goals while Mitchell Heard replied with a goal and assist for Plymouth.

Last Season: The 67's had a 1-1 record against the Whalers outscoring them 8-7 along the way. Ryan Martindale led the 67's with a goal and two assists during the two Plymouth games.

Game Notes:

Trio of First Round Rounders

Plymouth features a trio of 2011 NHL first round picks in their lineup. J.T. Miller, who was selected 15th overall by the New York Rangers enters his first OHL season after coming up through the United States National Development Program. Stefan Noesen, the only player in the OHL who hails from Texas, was selected 21st overall by the Ottawa Senators. Richard Rakell, who enters his second OHL season as one of Plymouth's import players was taken 30th overall by the Anaheim Ducks. All three are key players to watch on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking of First Rounders...

Both the 67's and Whalers can boast that they have had a defenceman taken first overall in the NHL Entry Draft. In 1973, the New York Islanders selected the 67's Denis Potvin first overall in the NHL Entry Draft. Exactly 22 years later, the Ottawa Senators would pick the then Detroit Whalers defenceman Bryan Berard first overall at the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. Berard would end up never playing a game for the Senators, he was traded for longtime Senator Wade Redden and Berard would start his career with New York Islanders, just as Denis Potvin did 22 years previously.
