Game Notes:
Sting finally buzzing
After occupying the basement of the Western Conference for many years the Sarnia Sting are starting to make some noise. Sarnia boasts 2 of the top 15 scorers with Charles Sarault sitting 3rd in OHL scoring and Nail Yakupov 14th even though he hasn't played since suffering a knee injury while playing for Russia at the World Junior Championships . Yakupov, ranked as a possible first overall NHL draft pick, could be making his return to action this Friday if cleared by doctors. Kanata native Ryan Spooner has 7 points in 8 games since being traded to Sarnia from Kingston.
Reversed Roles
Friday's game will be the first time 2 players face their former teams. The 67's Daniel Broussard, just back from a suspension, will play against the Sting for the first time since being traded here in the fall for draft picks. The Fayetteville, NC native spent his first 3 and a half seasons in Sarnia. It will also be Julian Luciani's homecoming after being traded last summer. Luciani was fan favorite during his short tenure with the 67's last season. All-Star Home Coming Former 67's Brian Campbell and Logan Couture will be in town for the all-star game this weekend and will be stopping by the J. Benson Cartage Centre to take part in a ceremonial drop the puck. Both Campbell and Couture spent their entire junior careers with the 67's and played under legendary head coach Brian Kilrea. Campbell was named the OHL's Top Defenseman and the OHL/CHL Player of the year and won the Memorial cup in 1999. Couture was a 3 time OHL All Star and was an NHL rookie of the year finalist last year with San Jose.
