BILLINGS, MT - Bobby Borchering doubled home a pair of runs and added a RBI triple, while Miguel Pena picked up his first win for the Missoula Osprey, who beat the Billings Mustangs, 8-3, at Dehler Park on Saturday in front of 2,584 fans.
Borchering's two-run double gave the Osprey the lead for good, snapping a 1-1 tie in the third inning. He then added a RBI by drilling a triple to left-center field, while batting right-handed, to add some insurance in the fifth.
Keon Broxton hit his 10th home run of the season, part of a two-hit night for the center fielder, and a 10-hit Osprey attack. Paul Goldschmidt added two singles, Chris Owings drilled a RBI triple, Raywily Gomez added a run-scoring single and Ender Inciarte doubled and plated a run with a sacrifice fly for Missoula.
Pena (1-5) was very solid throughout the game. After surrendering a leadoff triple, Pena retired the next 15 batters he faced. By the time Christobal Rodriguez had an infield hit to lead off the sixth inning, the Osprey held an 8-1 lead and were in control of the game.
Pena finished with six innings of work, allowing four hits and two walks, three earned runs and struck out four batters. Patrick Schuster, making his debut, retired the side in the seventh on just eight pitches, striking out two batters; and Kevin Eichhorn finished the game, allowing two hits and a walk in two innings of work while fanning three batters.
The Osprey will continue their four-game series with the Mustangs at Dehler Park on Sunday. Right-hander Charles Brewer will get the start for the Osprey, while the Mustangs will send right-hander Oscar Castro to the hill.
The Osprey will play their final six games at home in their final homestand, which will begin on Friday, September 4.
