January 1, 2012 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Mississauga Power News Release
(HALIFAX, NS) Durham's Team the Oshawa Power fell in their New Years day battle with the Halifax Rainmen 133-99 in the first of two straight games at the Metro Centre in Halifax.
The Power got off to a good start and took a 22-20 lead after one quarter due to great defense and hustle. But the great defensive effort by the Power in the first quarter was matched and exceeded by the Rainmen for the remaining three quarters leading to the blow out victory.
Brandon Robinson was able to give the visiting Power a boost off the bench with 21 points. Marcus Johnson was also a spark plug adding 12 points 6 rebounds.
"Tonight was a lack of defense and heart," said Robinson. "We have to stick together on the road and play hard every possession. We have to get prepared for the next game because it's going to be an all out war."
Lawrence Wright poured in a game high 28 points off the bench for the Rainmen as one of the best defensive teams statistically in the National Basketball League of Canada were able to challenge most of the Power's shots leading to 10 blocks for the home squad.
The game was a chippy affair and a minor skirmish near the end of the game led to the Power's Jerome Brown and the Rainmen's Tyrone Levett being ejected from the game.
Cooler heads prevailed though and the game concluded without any further incidents.
The Power will try and avenge their New Years day defeat as they go up against the Rainmen again on January 5, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. E.S.T.
The next Power home game is January 26, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. against the Saint John Mill Rats.
