January 1, 2012 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
London Lightning News Release

As 2011 drew to a close the National Basketball League of Canada saw the London Lightning perched at the top of the standings. However as soon as 2012 rang in an opponent arrived at the John Labatt Centre looking to defeat the first place Lightning. Fortunately, the Lighting were able to take their first win of the New Year defeating the Miracles 103-83 in front of 2331 fans.

It took London awhile to get going, but once they heated up, they carried a large lead throughout much of the 4th quarter.

"It was a great game for us," explained Coach Michael Ray Richardson. "It's difficult to play when you are against a team with a 2-11 record, but we were able to play great defense in the second quarter and blew the game open."

Lightning's Gabe Freeman put on a stellar performance ending the night with 30 points, and 1 rebound shy of a double double, with 9. Six of the Lightning players finished in double digits, including their latest addition Braxton Dupree ending with 10.

Coach Richardson commented on the Lightning's latest acquisition saying "Braxton will be an asset for this team. He is a very big presence in the paint for us."

The Lightning will remain at home for their next two matches playing Friday, January 6th and Saturday, January 7th against the Summerside Storm and Halifax Rainmen respectively, both tipping off at 7pm.
