Orlando Valkyries News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Valkyries, member team of the Pro Volleyball Federation, announced their first-ever training camp, beginning on January 4. The three-week camp will provide the team's players with a platform to engage in collective workouts and practice sessions, preparing for the upcoming 2024 season. The team has invited twenty players to camp and will cut the roster down to fourteen players on the active roster, plus two practice players before the start of the season. Led by Head Coach Amy Pauly, the roster will feature a diverse group of players, ranging from All-Americans to Olympians.
"I'm looking forward to getting back in the gym with our team. We ended our mini camp on a really high note with competitive six-on-six play, so I'm eager to see where we pick up from there," highlighted Pauly. "This month we add some additions with our draftees, plus Vanessa Agbortabi, who just finished up half a season in Greece. I think they'll only continue to add to the level and energy of the current squad."
The training camp will comprise established players and new talents acquired in the recent college player draft. Among the drafted individuals are Georgia Murphy, a libero from Oregon University, and Azhani Tealer, a middle blocker from the University of Kentucky, who were selected in the second and third rounds. The team continued to build its lineup in the fifth round with the addition of Kalyah Williams, an opposite from the University of Southern California. In an earlier draft move, the Valkyries traded the rights to Paige Briggs and the No. 24 selection to the Omaha Supernovas. In return, they acquired Jill Gillen, an outside hitter from the University of Arkansas, and Abby Hansen, a middle blocker from the University of Central Florida.
"Being able to train and live out a dream playing professionally while finishing my master's degree is more than I could ask for," said Hansen. "The Pro Volleyball Federation gives me the opportunity to compete at the highest level and inspire others, which is incredibly rewarding. I'm eager to embrace the challenges and continue growing as both an athlete and individual within the volleyball community."
In addition to the training camp, other notable dates to look out for include the "Select Your Seat" Open House event at Addition Financial Arena on Saturday, January 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event offers opportunities for attendees to meet the team, watch an open practice, and choose their seats for the season. The week following this event, the Valkyries will take on the Atlanta Vibe for the team's inaugural home opener on Friday, January 26 at 7 p.m.
