Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – This Friday night the Veteran's Memorial Arena will be electric as the Orlando Seals return to Jacksonville to face the first place Barracudas for the first of three in a row at home for Jacksonville this weekend.

The last meeting between these two teams on March 5th saw the two least penalized teams in the league break the WHA2 penalty minute record with 245 minutes in penalties called. The game featured a vicious slash from Orlando 's Joe Pecoraro, a slew-footing incident with Jacksonville's Dan Pszenyczny, Orlando's Ryan Anderson jumping into the Barracudas bench to go after a player causing Orlando's bench to empty, and an on-ice altercation between both coaches.

"Orlando was very frustrated after a bunch of losses," captain Kory Baker said. "We'd hit one of their players and they would retaliate causing the game to get real ‘chippy'. Then it got carried away from there."

When it was all said and done, five major penalties were called, five misconducts, 10 game misconducts, three gross misconducts, one match penalty, and a total of seven suspensions. Coaches, Ron Duguay and Jim Paek, each received 10 game suspensions for their part. Orlando's Nello Ferrera received a 10 game suspension as well. Ryan Anderson got six games, while Dan Pszenyczny, Mike Sanderson, and Ridvan Sadiki received one game each.

The Barracudas players don't expect a repeat performance, but what they do expect is a very intense, hard fought game.

"Orlando is fighting for their lives and the final play-off spot. They're going to come at us with everything," defenseman Justin Berry said. "They' re our biggest rival and it will be an intense battle with lot's of hitting," Baker added.

The Barracudas welcome back high-scoring forward Rob Bonneau on Friday night. In the previous three games with the Barracudas, Bonneau has seven points (3g-4a).

"He's going to be a tremendous help offensively," Assistant Coach/Acting Head Coach Brett Strot said. "He's a constant scoring threat and will make us a better team all around."

On Saturday night, the Lakeland Loggerheads return to the Arena, as the Barracudas will be wearing special St. Patrick's Day Green Jerseys. The first 5,000 people in attendance will receive free St. Paddy's Day Darby hats and Irish Pins compliments of the Fan Club. There will be a silent auction during the game for the special game-worn jerseys.

On Sunday, the Cudas face the Alabama Slammers at the Veteran's Memorial Arena. Face-off time on Sunday is 6:05pm; Friday and Saturday's face-off time is 7:05pm. Great seats still remain and are available at the Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations. Group and corporate ticket packages are available at the Barracudas office only by calling 904-367-1-ICE.
