Orlando City SC Launches #PurplePride Campaign

August 2, 2013 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orlando City SC News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando City SC announced Friday the club has launched a campaign to drive supporters to the August 6 and 9 meetings at the County Administration Building. Orlando City will present their case for collaborative funding from Orange County using Tourist Development Tax (TDT), with approval by vote finalizing the financing structure for the development of a multi-purpose soccer stadium in downtown Orlando.

Fans are encouraged to use the hash tag #PurplePride in social media posts throughout the week of the presentations, showing their support at the meetings by wearing purple attire.

The meetings will take place at 201 S. Rosalind Avenue in downtown Orlando, with the August 6 presentation beginning at 9 a.m. August 9 will start at 1:30 p.m. Both are open to the public and media.

Orlando City SC officials, including President Phil Rawlins and Owner/Investor Flavio August da Silva, attended Major League Soccer's (MLS) All Star Game in Kansas City earlier in the week - meeting with MLS officials to discuss expansion plans.

The $20 million requested from the TDT will contribute a financing plan for phase one, which consists of $30 million subsidized by team ownership. Securing a stadium-funding plan will allow club officials to complete expansion negotiations with MLS with the goal to have a franchise awarded in 2013. The team would begin play in MLS by Spring 2015.
