Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads finished with a 2-1 victory over the Charleston Battery during their 'Pink Night' match on Friday night at Legion Stadium. Wilmington's Kyle Greig and Mickael Oliveira added the two goals needed for the Hammerheads to shut down the Battery and continue their hopes into climbing the playoff ranks after being deducted one point in the standing last week.
In the first few minutes of play, Wilmington forward Cody Arnoux collided mid-air with Charleston goalkeeper Odisnel Cooper as he tried for the attempt. Cooper was unable to grip the ball and it was released back into play as Wilmington's Kyle Greig followed through for a shot that soared inches above the crossbar for the first shot of the night.
Wilmington increased the score 1-0 off a goal by forward Kyle Greig in the 39th minute, assisted by Tom Parratt. This makes Greig's fourth goal of the USL PRO regular season with the Wilmington Hammerheads.
The Battery were reduced to 10 men in the 54th minute after a scuffle broke out between both teams in center field and midfielder Quinton Griffith was dismissed from the match after receiving a red card.
Wilmington forward Mickael Oliveira scored his first goal at Legion Stadium during Friday's match-up, his second of the season, off a ground pass by Shawn Nicklaw in the penalty area rounding off the 75th minute of play. The two point lead by the Hammerheads decreased to one within the six minutes of allotted stoppage time as Charleston's Haviel Cordoves prevented his team from finishing scoreless.
The Wilmington Hammerheads travel to take on the Dayton Dutch Lions on Sunday, August 4, for their final road match of the regular season as they look to claim a spot in the playoffs. The match kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and will be streamed live via UNATION. The Wilmington Hammerheads organization will be hosting a Watch Party for this match at the Buffalo Wild Wings on Old Eastwood Road in Wilmington, NC for supporters.
