Orangeville A's News Release

The A's were able to capitalize on their last game of the regular season, riding the 25 points by A's forward Justin Moss and 17 assists by Player of the Game Da'Quan Brooks. Although Orangeville was able to leave with the 137-128 win, there was little they could do to slow the scoring efforts of River Lion's guard B.J. Monteiro, who finished the night with a whopping 47 points.

Tonight marks the final regular season game for the Orangeville A's (13-25), as they hosted the Niagara River Lions (16-23) at the Athlete Institute. After dropping a close game to the London Lightning last night, the A's look to pick up steam before the NBL playoffs begin on Monday (May 2nd).

A's forward Flen Whitfield was able to pick up the scoring responsibilities during the 1st, going (3/6) from the field and collecting 8 of his total 22 points. The A's were battling uphill for the majority of the opening quarter, concluding the 1st down by 1, 39-38.

The 2nd quarter continued to be a high scoring affair for both sides, with the two teams combining for 65 points in the quarter alone. A's forward Tyrone Watson threw down a monster dunk on the fast break, finishing the half with 12 points and 16 points on the night. Orangeville was red hot from the field, going 55% (27/49) as a team throughout the first 24 minutes of play. The A's were able to finish the 2nd quarter with a 2 point lead, 72-70.

The A's were able to get off to a strong defensive start, holding Niagara scoreless until the 9:25 mark of the 3rd quarter, 78-70. Tonight's game would continue to pull back and forth, seeing the lead change over 19 times by the end of the 3rd. Orangeville was able to gain some separation at the end of the 3rd, leading 96-92 over Niagara.

The A's managed to take their biggest lead of the night in the 4th quarter, pulling ahead to an 11 point lead with 3:55 remaining, 127-116. A's forward Justin Moss provided the home team with two consecutive blocks on the defensive end, helping boost the A's in the final minutes. From that point on it would continue to tip in Orangeville's favour, seeing them hold onto a 9 point lead for the final score of 137-128.
