Orangeville A's Fall to the KW Titans

ORANGEVILLE, ON - Coming off a 17-point victory over the Niagara River Lions and in the midst of a 3-game winning streak, the A's looked to be turning the corner after their recent run of tough losses. Once again hosting the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans, the team the A's defeated to begin the current win streak. The A's we confident coming into this game that they would be able to achieve the same result. The A's had a balanced offensive attack tonight but it wasn't enough to carry the A's through a 4th quarter collapse that would result in a loss.

Out of the gate the A's struggled to find the bottom of the basket despite getting good looks inside the paint. However, once lead guard Anthony Harris found his range from beyond the arc (2-2 3PT FG), they quickly found their rhythm to the tune of a 12-2 run. The Titans would come back to take the lead but Jameson Tipping would pour in 6 points (2-3 3PT FG) of his own from deep to ensure their deficit was short lived.

Going into the second with a 26-24 lead, Orangeville didn't let up and continued with another strong 10-3 run. Although the Titans struggled with their 3-point shooting, they came back to tie the game once again behind stellar play from their guard Adam Wing (8p, 3-3 FG) and an impressive defensive stop by Cavell Johnson. Orangeville's turnover struggles (12 TOs) didn't help their situation but were content to only find themselves trailing by one (36-37) mid-way through the quarter. Both sides would continue to exchange baskets as they battled for momentum but it would be the A's Alex Johnson's strong play late in the quarter that would will them to a 49-44 halftime lead.

The first half was a strong one for the A's as they had 6 different players with over 5 points and their 18 first-half assists on 19 made field goals was exemplary of the ball movement they had been displaying up to that point. The Titan's Tamar Sutherland would lead all scorers at the half with 10 points. Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson's 9 halftime points led all A's but it was his constant hustle in the 3 rd that gave Orangeville the offensive energy it needed throughout the frame. Although they continued to struggle with turnovers and containing Tamar Sutherland, the play of Justin Moss (13p, 6-10 FG) was remarkable with his aggression getting to the rim. Defensively Orangeville began to falter late in the quarter but their 75-72 lead would be enough to carry them into the final frame.

The first few minutes of the final quarter weren't too friendly to the A's and the momentum began to shift in the Titans' favour. KW would take their first lead of the game since the 2 nd quarter. While the A's struggled to keep them from attacking the paint and getting to the free throw line for easy shots. They also had trouble getting around the defensive presence of Cavell Johnson. Ricky Tarrant had an explosive quarter for the Titans and would end up leading his team in scoring with 24 points (8-17 FG). Meanwhile, Hollis-Jefferson continued his solid play through the end of the game leading the A's with 18 points and 7 rebounds, but the team's 22 turnovers proved to be costly. In the end the Titan's 38-point 4th quarter was too much for the Orangeville squad who fall to 7-7 following the 110-98 loss.

Turnovers: Orangeville finished the game with 22 turnovers

Late Collapse: The A's were outscored by 15 in the final quarter; allowing the Titans to score a game-high 38 points

Free Throws: A's left a lot of points at the line; shooting only 61% (13/21) from the free throw line
