It is just 1 day to the Danbury Westerners 2011 season opener and Celebrity Breakfast with Bobby Valentine as guest speaker. Things are heating up and an exciting NECBL season is about to get underway.
On Wenesday June 8th five more former Westerners were drafted by Major League Baseball clubs. Alfredo Rodriguez (Maryland), Michael Williams (Kentucky) and Max Krokowiak (Fordham and Westport) from the 2010 team were joined by Billy Burns (Mercer) from the 2009 team and Kyle Mahoney (High Point) from the 2008 team. This brings the total to nine former Westerners players taken in the 2011 first year players draft.
The Westerners wish to congratulate all nine former Westerners, thank them for their service and making Danbury their summer home, and hope that all their baseball dreams come true.
Who will be this season's future MLB draftees... Only time will tell. The top notch New Westerners have arrived in Danbury and will be holding their first practice at Rogers Park on Thursday morning in preparation for Friday evening's opening game against the Mystic Schooners. Don't miss a minute of action. Get out to Rogers Park and cheer tomorrow's major leaguers, today. First pitch Friday evening at 6:30 PM.
