The day area sports fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. TODAY is Danbury Westerners 2011 Opening Day!
This morning at 7:30am at the Amber Room is the Annual Celebrity Breakfast with Bobby Valentine as guest speaker and your first opportunity to meet all of the new Danbury Westerners.
At 6:30pm will be the initial game of the NECBL 2011 season as the Westerners host the rival Mystic Schooners at Rogers Park. Jamie Shevchik has nominated Eric Luksis from Manhattan College to pitch the initial game for Danbury.
The dominating lefthander from Wappingers Falls had a 7-4 record and 3.68 ERA in his sophomore season for the Jaspers and helped lead them to the Gainesville Regional of the NCAA Division-I College World Series.
Following the game between Danbury and Mystic, the Westerners will be the guests of Coyote Maverick who will honor the team in a public celebration at their place.
