Open Tryouts for Blitz and Dance Team this Weekend

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 will be holding open tryouts this Saturday for the arena football team as well as the dance team for the 2005 af2 season.

Saturday will be the only chance for area hopefuls to display their gridiron talent for the Blitz coaching staff. Head Coach Rick Van Horne is expected to give a serious look to those coming out, and a select few may land a spot on the Blitz 35-man training camp roster. The Blitz 2005 Training Camp opens in just eight days and the 2005 season kicks off on April 2nd.

The player tryout will be held on Saturday, starting at 10:00 a.m. and registration starts at 9:00 a.m. at Bakersfield College. Players need to bring grass cleats and workout gear. Entrants will be timed in the 40-yard dash and 10-yard pro shuttle and there will also be one-on-one drills. Everyone who participates will get a free Blitz t-shirt. Cost of the tryout is just $40

The Blitz Girls Dance Team will be holding their tryout at the Boys & Girls Club at 801 Niles Street from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Girls interested in trying out should have some prior experience as a cheerleader or a dancer. Sherrina Clark will head up the dance team for a second season in a row.

The Blitz 2005 schedule includes eight games at home and eight on the road, starting with Opening Night on Saturday, April 2nd against Central Valley. Friday Night Football will hit the Rabobank Arena this season, as the remainder of the home schedule will consist of Friday night match-ups. The Blitz will compete in the National Conference West Division along with the Central Valley Coyotes, Rio Grande Valley Dorados, San Diego Riptide and the Tulsa Talons.
