SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze has agreed to terms on a contract with rookie wide receiver Jovonne Augustus, the team officially announced today. Augustus earned a contract after an outstanding showing during the franchise's open tryout last Saturday.

"On film, we saw Jovonne as a big receiver with the ability to box out defenders and battle for the football," said Head Coach Ron James. "We wanted to see that ability in person, and his performance during our open tryout really solidified our views. I praise Jovonne for come out here and earning a contract the hard way."

"I have the ability to go up and get the football in the red zone, so I think my playing style fits Arena Football," Augustus said. "Salt Lake City is a great place and we have a great coaching staff. I also had the chance to meet [Utah Blaze quarterback] Tommy Grady and I'm excited to be playing with him. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to continue my football career and hopefully I'll have a long career here in Utah."

Augustus (6-5, 210, Grand Valley State) was a two-time All-Great Lakes Conference selection during his career at Grand Valley State. In his final two collegiate seasons, Augustus hauled in 20 touchdown passes while recording 57 receptions for 1,006 yards.

A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Augustus played his first two seasons at College of the Canyons in California, where he earned All-Western State Conference honors while recording 62 receptions for 1,180 yards and 11 touchdowns.
