Ontario Fury News Release
The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, clinched the final spot in the Major Arena Soccer League's Ron Newman Cup playoffs with an emphatic 12-5 victory over the Turlock Express on Friday night at Turlock Indoor Soccer. Six different players scored in the first quarter as Ontario opened a 6-0 lead after the first 15 minutes, sucking the life out of the capacity crowd at the game for Fan Appreciation Night. Ontario kept up the pressure throughout the game, ending the chase for the playoffs on a five-game winning streak, with all the victories being considered must-win for a playoff spot. The Fury closed the season winning eight of their last nine games, passing Tacoma in the final two weeks for the second playoff spot from the Pacific Division. Ontario has won its last five road games as well, setting a team mark. Maicon de Abreu and Leonardo de Oliveira each had three goals for the Fury, with Oliveira adding three assists as well, adding to his hot play down the stretch. Last week's league player of the week, Oliveria finishes the regular season with 50 points, including 31 goals, which ties him for the most in a single season in Fury history. Jinho Kim had two goals and an assist as well, as seven Fury players notched a goal, and nine had at least one point. Goalkeeper Joey Kapinos was strong in net as well, getting credit for 20 saves in goal, including a big stop on a shootout attempt in the third quarter. Ontario moves on to face the San Diego Sockers in the divisional round of the playoffs. The series will open Sunday, March 12 at Valley View Casino Center for Game 1, with Game 2 set to take place at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Tuesday, March 14. If the two teams are tied after the first two contests, a mini-game will take place 15 minutes after Game 2 in Ontario. The on sale time and date for the Fury's home playoff game will be announced soon.
