Ontario Fury News Release
The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, had a five-point performance from Nelson Santana in his first game back from US National Futsal Team duty, but it wasn't enough as the Pacific Division-leading Soles de Sonora beat the Fury 17-8 Saturday night at Centro de Usos Muncipal in Hermisillo, Sonora, Mexico.
Santana scored twice and had three assists in the game, which also saw a three-point performance from Stephen Basso, who had one goal and two assists.
But the Fury were overwhelmed from the start of the game on the smaller field in Mexico. Sonora jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 5:40 of the game, and had a 6-3 lead after one. The Soles scored five unanswered goals spanning the end of the second quarter and start of the third to extend their lead to five at 10-5.
The game was chippy throughout, with both teams combining for 47 fouls and 24 penalty minutes. Ontario scored twice on the power play, but allowed a shorthanded goal to the Soles.
Sonora had three players score four points apiece, as Damian Garcia had three goals and one assist, while Franck Tayou and Enrique Canez each had two goals and two assists.
Ontario will return home for a three-game home stand, which will begin Feb. 13 against the Dallas Sidekicks, which will be Elvis Night. There will be a post-game concert featuring Elvis Presley Tribute Artist James Kruk following the game, which kicks off at 6 p.m. Tickets for the game, and all Fury home games, are available at the Citizens Business Bank Arena Box Office and online at AXS.com.
Season ticket packages for the 2016-17 Fury season are also now available. Contact the Fury's offices at 909-457-0252 or go to OntarioFury.com for more information.
