AUGUSTA, Ga. -- We are searching for ladies with a strong desire to perform for the Spartans fans in 2007! There are two final chances to audition. We teach, you learn.
Candidates must be a high school graduate, 18 years or older, have strong dance/performance skills, be physically fit, energetic, and able to dedicate time to the Spartans organization. If you have questions, you can click on the Q&A link on this page.
Those interested in trying out should arrive appropriately dressed to audition (hair and make-up complete) and bring a current photo with resume. There is a non-refundable application fee of $20 (cash or check only). All cheerleading candidates are asked to wear aerobic/dance wear with comfortable shoes; no baggy clothes. A two piece outfit with dance briefs or micro-shorts preferred. A formal dance background is not required.

ARE THERE ANY HEIGHT & WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS?
You should look well proportioned in dancewear. We DO NOT have specific height and weight requirements; however, the uniform demands a physically fit figure.
ARE THERE ANY AGE REQUIREMENTS?
You must be at least 18 by the date of preliminary auditions and a high school graduate. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! As far as maximum age, there is NO limit.
Ages of past cheerleaders have ranged from 20 to 39.
WHAT IF I AM CURRENTLY A CHEERLEADER/DANCER FOR ANOTHER TEAM?
Unfortunately, we do not allow ASC's to be part of any other dance/cheer team due to the time commitment required to be part of the Augusta Spartans. All team members need to be equally committed and dedicated to the success of our squad and the Augusta Spartan's organization.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO PRELIMINARY AUDITIONS?
- Form fitting attire such as spandex shorts/dance briefs, sports bra and/or the like that are in good taste. Avoid t-shirts and baggy clothing. Ideally, a two piece spandex outfit will give you ample flexibility. Try any dancewear or athletic shop. Some candidates have found satisfactory alternatives in department stores.
- Flesh color tights preferred; if you wear panty hose, make sure they are sheer to waist!
- Tennis shoes or Dance shoes with white soles only. (To prevent scuff marks)
HOW SHOULD I WEAR MY MAKE-UP?
Colors that compliment your features and outfit. Think dramatic and glamorous! Local cosmetic counters do a wonderful job of preparing ladies for a professional event. Call ahead of time to schedule an appointment! Avoid heavy eyeliners, loud or obnoxious eye shadow / blush colors that distract from your natural beauty.
HOW SHOULD I WEAR MY HAIR?
A contemporary hairstyle that compliments your features. Make sure your hair does not hide your face. Avoid hair clips, bows, and ribbons.
CAN MY FAMILY/FRIENDS WATCH AUDITIONS?
Preliminaries are closed to the public, no exceptions. Space is limited to candidates, staff, and judges. However, Final Auditions are OPEN to the public. Tickets to Finals will be sold at Prelims. and Clinic.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO PRELIMINARIES?
Completed application with fee, resume, and photograph (headshot or full body)
*Applications will be on hand for those who do not download it in advance from our website.
Extra tights & back-up outfit just in case!
Make-Up, hairbrush, etc.
IS THERE MONETARY COMPENSATION FOR BEING AN ASC?
Yes, but do not do this for compensation; Do it because you love to perform and serve your community! There may be opportunities for paid personal appearances, but there will also be charity events and unpaid mandatory appearances. Being part of a team, performing, and making friends of a lifetime are rewards you will cherish!
HOW LONG WILL THE PRELIMINARY AUDITIONS LAST?
Plan on 2-3 hours; length of stay depends upon the number of applicants. You must stay until the end of the audition to see if you are chosen for finals. Should your number be announced, you will be required to sign-up for an interview the following day. IMPORTANT: EVEN IF YOU FEEL YOU DID NOT DO WELL IN YOUR PRELIMINARY AUDITION, PLEASE REMAIN UNTIL ALL THE NUMBERS HAVE BEEN CALLED -- YOUR NAME JUST MIGHT BE ANNOUNCED!!!!
WHAT WILL I NEED TO DO AT PRELIMINARIES?
Registration will begin promptly at 3:30pm. Instruction begins at 4:00pm and auditions start at 4:30pm. DO NOT BE LATE! You will introduce yourself to the judges in groups of 2 and then perform the routine to the best of your ability. Do not stop if you miss a beat, keep going! After the last group completes routine, judges retire to make Finalists selections.
IS BEING AN ASC A FULL-TIME JOB?
No, you must hold at least a part-time job or attend college. We are proud to have a history of professionals such as entrepreneurs, public relations executives, college students/graduates, medical professionals, teachers, etc. Our team has always had a very diverse structure to include wives and mothers as well. It is important to the owners and management to continue the tradition of having reputable women represent the Augusta Spartans in 2007.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME AN AUGUSTA SPARTANS CHEERLEADER?
You must be dedicated to be the best! Desire to perform community service. Rehearsal is mandatory and held two nights a week. Team Spirit! Performing at 8 home games as well as playoff games and some civic performances as well. You will get a more detailed description during orientation.

Showmanship Dance Technique
Personal Appearance Figure
Personality Energy
*Interview scores, if schedule permits, will be tallied into final scores.
IS THE PRE-AUDITION CLINIC MANDATORY?
It is not mandatory, but provides excellent preparation for the upcoming audition.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY APPLICATION WAS RECEIVED?
You will receive a phone call stating that your application was processed. Please wait 3 days prior to auditions to call the Director of Cheerleading if you have not received notice.
IF I AM NOT SELECTED, WILL MY APPLICATION BE KEPT ON FILE?
No. You must re-apply with a new application, non-returnable photo, and application processing fee each year. NO PHOTOS WILL BE RETURNED...PLEASE DON"T ASK.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO FINALS?
Back-up outfit and tights just in case!
Personal items--make-up, curling iron, etc.
A host of friends and family!!!!

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME IF I MAKE IT TO FINALS?
The finals will be held Friday, December 1 @ The Country Club Dance Hall and Saloon and will last approximately 2-3 hours. Registration will begin promptly at 5:30pm. The Auditions begin at 7:00pm. DO NOT BE LATE! Detailed instructions will be given to you if you are selected to advance to finals, but to give you a brief idea.
