
O'Neill Leads The Way As Wings Avoid The Sweep

HARLINGEN, Texas- Starting pitcher Bobby O'Neill pitched eight strong innings as RGV (1-3) avoided the sweep slipping past San Angelo (3-1) 2-1 Sunday night at Harlingen Field.
With one out in the bottom of the third San Angelo's Danny Hernandez reached first on a hit by pitch, Bobby O'Neill attempted a pickoff throw that sailed over Danny Pembroke's head as Hernandez rounded second and slid safely into third. Steve Rinaudo later grounded out to the shortstop giving the Colts an early 1-0 advantage on the fielder's choice.
It was until the fourth inning when WhiteWings third basemen Kevin Lusson came around to score from third on Troy Zawadski fielder's choice.
Wings left fielder Albert Carpen came to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Carpen laid down a beautiful bunt that hugged the third base line fooling Colts third basemen Steve Rinaudo then with two outs, Thomas Shull delivered a clutch game winning RBI single to break a 1-1 deadlock tie giving RGV a 2-1 lead. This proved to be the game winner as the RGV WhiteWings held on in the ninth inning when closer Kyle Wahl shut the door on the visiting San Angelo Colts.
RGV gets their first win of the year (1-3) as they hit the road for their first road trip of the year. Tuesday, May 28th will be the first of a four game series in Alexandria, Louisiana versus the Alexandria Aces. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
