Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA â Pitchers and catchers report to the Kansas City Royals major league Spring Training facility in Surprise, Arizona this Saturday and selected pitchers and catchers report to the Royals minor league spring camp next Tuesday. The Omaha Royals will play a 15-game Spring Training schedule, opening March 14th in Surprise against the Oklahoma RedHawks.
This marks the third season that Kansas City and the Texas Rangers will share Surprise Stadium for their Cactus League games. Each organization also has six full fields, a conditioning field and a separate infield in the $48 million campus for use by their minor league clubs. Since Omaha plays three of its spring "road" games vs. Oklahoma, which is the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate, the Royals will stay in Surprise for ten of their 15 exhibition games.
In 2004, Omaha posted a 7-6-2 record in its spring schedule. The Royals went 8-2-1 during their first spring in Surprise in 2003.
Mark Nasser will host a live 2005 Omaha Royals preview show from Surprise on Monday, March 28th, from 6-8 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio 1490.
The Royals open their 144-game Pacific Coast League regular season at Round Rock on April 7th, and play their home opener at Rosenblatt Stadium on Friday, April 15th at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Round Rock Express.
