Omaha Lancers News Release

OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) begin the 2011-2012 regular season, and the franchise's 26th season of operation in the USHL, this Friday evening against the Waterloo Black Hawks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM at the Omaha Civic Auditorium on Friday. The Lancers finished second overall in the Western Conference during last year's regular season and qualified for the Clark Cup Playoffs for a league-record 22nd consecutive season.

Omaha (2-3 in preseason play) returns nine skaters from last season's roster including forwards Ken Babinski, Anthony Hamburg, Adam Chlapik, Mark Miller and Jonathan Liau along with defensemen David Mead, Nathan Widman and Dominic Racobaldo and goaltender John Keeney. Hamburg is the highest returning scorer from last year's group after having notched 21 points (6 goals, 15 assists) in 31 games. The Lancers welcome in a trio of skaters with prior USHL experience in forwards Michael Ferrantino (4 games in Omaha last season), Jimmy Murray (33 games in Fargo last season) and goaltender Alex Lyon (1 game in Cedar Rapids last season). Omaha also brings into the mix this season a host of players with junior hockey experience from the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) in forwards Myles McCauley, Casey Bailey and Max Vallis to go along with defensemen Victor Newell and Kenney Morrison.

The Lancers first test of the 2011-2012 regular season will be the newest members of the Western Conference, the Waterloo Black Hawks. As part of USHL realignment in the offseason, Waterloo is now part of the West while defending Clark Cup champion Dubuque has moved to the East. The Black Hawks welcome back 11 skaters from last season's roster, which finished 24-29-7 overall and sixth within the Eastern Conference. Waterloo finished 4-3-1 during the 2011 preseason and recorded a 2-1 mark at last week's USHL Fall Classic.

Tickets for Friday's Home Opener are available for purchase at the Century Link Center (formerly Qwest Center) Box Office Monday - Friday, 10 AM - 6 PM, at the Omaha Civic Auditorium Box Office Friday morning beginning at 10 AM and through Ticketmaster.
