Tucson Sidewinders News Release
SS/3B Tim Olson drove home SS Jerry Gil, who reached on a 1-out triple, with a single to right field in the bottom of the 9th to win the game for the Sidewinders, 5-4. Reliever Scott Service (5-0) picked up his 5th win of the year by pitching a scoreless ninth to set up the 9th inning victory. RHP Bobby Chouinard (1-4) took the loss as he gave up the winning run.
2B Keoni DeRenne had 3 hits for the Sidewinders and 1B Alan Zinter continued to swing a hot stick with 2 hits in 4 at bats and drove in a run. Starting pitcher Jon Cannon lasted 5 innings, limiting the RedHawks to 1 run on 5 hits before being relieved by RHP Brady Raggio in the sixth.
The Zephyrs tied the ball game up at 4 in the top of the 8th with a lead-off home run by CF Mike Hill. It was his 4th homer of the season and he finished 2-4. The starting pitcher for New Orleans, RHP Chad Qualls, went 7 innings before being relieved by RHP Tony Fiore. Qualls allowed 4 runs, all earned on 9 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2.
The win boosted Tucson to 22-15, good for first place in the South. The loss dropped New Orleans to 16-22, as they still remain in the cellar of the East division. Tucson improved to an astonishing 11-0 in day games and 6-0 on Sundays.
3,356 fans attended the contest. It was completed 1 hour and 9 minutes faster than previous night's New Orleans' victory at 2:51.
Tomorrow's probables for the 6:30 PM start feature RHP Chris Enochs (1-3, 3.77) for New Orleans facing LHP Jim Parque (0-1, 8.64) for Tucson.
