Rochester Brigade News Release
(Rochester, NY)-Today, Rochester Brigade Head Coach and General Manager Mark Saunders announced that OL/DL Mike Stachewicz is be back in the lineup for this weekend's game against the Mohegan Wolves.
"We missed him greatly...he's just as big of a player as Derek Baker," stated Saunders. "Without him there was no stability on the line, and I hope he comes back and plays the way he did before the injury."
Stachewicz, 6'3, 300 lbs., from Buffalo State has been the team's starting center since the beginning of the season, prior to suffering the initial injury to his hamstring on June 8, against the Richmond Speed. He continued to battle through the injury, playing in the next three games, until he was placed on short term IR with a torn hamstring muscle on June 28. Prior to Stachewicz's injury, the Brigade offense was ranked as high as third in the league and the offensive line had only given up nine sacks on the season. In the two games Stachewicz was on injured reserve the team dropped out of the top ten in total offense and gave up nine sacks, which was equivalent to as many as the team gave up in the previous twelve games of the season.
"He's (OL/DL Mike Stachewicz) very consistent at the center position and has a smooth transition snapping the ball to the quarterback," commented Saunders. "When he went down I knew we'd miss him and it showed from the amount of turnovers we had at that position over the past couple of games."
On the season, Stachewicz has registered ten tackles (eight solo), 1.5 tackles for a loss of yards and two pass breakups. Offensively, he's been the main attribute on the line as the team ranks third in the league in rushing with 601 yards, including 35 touchdowns; nevertheless, the team has the number two rusher in the league, QB Matt D'Orazio, with 330 yards and 19 scores.
"He's a big plus to have back...he's very valuable to the team," proclaimed Saunders.
This week the Brigade heads on the road to face the Mohegan Wolves in a Northeast division battle on Friday, June 19, for a 7:30 pm kickoff. The season series is currently tied at one game a piece with the Brigade winning the last meeting 53 to 50 in Mohegan back on May 17. With a victory, the Brigade will clinch a spot in the post season and face the Albany Conquest. Catch all of the action on WYSL 1040 AM with the voice of the Brigade JC DeLass.
