Oklahoma Cavalry Roster Announced

LAWTON, OKLA.-- Following training camp and a successful exhibition game, Oklahoma Cavalry President/General Manager Otis Birdsong announced today the Cavalry's 10-man roster.

Players include 6-7 Forward Darold Crow, 6-10 Center Pierre Darden, 6-5 Guard/Forward Curtis Haywood, 6-6 Forward Malcolm Johnson, 6-7 Forward Marvin Phillips, 6-1 Guard Albert Robinson, 6-7 Guard/Forward Daryan Selvy, 6-3 Guard Eddie Smith, 6-7 Forward Judson Stubbs and 7-0 Center Walt Waters. Six-foot-two Guard DaMarcus Ellis is on injured reserve.

"We have a good group of guys and are going to have a very exciting team," Head Coach Michael Ray Richardson said. "We will be put to the test right away since we open up on the road. If you can win on the road, you're going to have a successful team. We're looking forward to it."

The roster boasts impressive players from around the country and four have ties to Oklahoma.

Forward Darold Crow is from Lubbock, Texas but finished up his college career at the University of Tulsa from 2005-2007 after transferring from Seminole State College in Seminole, Okla.

Curtis Haywood hails from Oklahoma City and attended Capitol Hill High School. Haywood went on to play for Oklahoma City University from 1997-1999 and holds the school record for steals with 165.

Forward Malcolm Johnson is a native of Lawton, Okla. and graduated from Lawton High School in 1994. He went on to play for Seminole State College before finishing up his college career at Texas Christian University from 1996-98.

Guard/Forward Daryan Selvy played for the University of Oklahoma from 2000-02 after transferring from Carl Albert Junior College in Poteau, Okla. Selvy was a member of the 2002 OU Final Four team and was named to the Big 12 All-Reserve Team his senior season.

The rest of the Cavs squad comes from all across the United States and overseas.

Center Pierre Darden is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and attended the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kent. from 2004-2006. Darden averaged 10.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game his senior year.

Forward Marvin Phillips is a returning player for Head Coach Michael Ray Richardson. Phillips played for Coach Richardson on the Albany Patroons team last year that made it to the CBA finals. Phillips' hometown is Jacksonville, N.C., and he played for Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. during the 2003-04 season.

Guard Albert Robinson joins the team after playing with the Arkansas Rivercatz and the Mississippi Miracles in the American Basketball Association (ABA). Robinson's hometown is Covington, Tenn., and he finished his college career at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas in 2002.

Guard Eddie Smith hails from Springfield, Ill. and played for the University of Illinois at Springfield last season after transferring from Texas A&M University. Smith led the team with 22.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the 2006-07 season.

Originally from Nassau, Bahamas, Forward Judson Stubbs played college ball at Texas Christian University from 2004-06. Stubbs averaged 10.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game his senior season. During the past year, Stubbs has played overseas in Argentina and Belize.

Center Walt Waters from Detroit, Mich. played with the Dodge City Legend in the United States Basketball League (USBL) this past year. Waters attended Macomb Community College in Warren, Mich. in 2005.

On injured reserve for the Cavs is Guard DaMarcus Ellis. Ellis' hometown is Dallas, Texas. He recently played for the Texas Tycoons (ABA), and played college ball at Robert Morris University from 2001-03.

Coach Richardson said he is expecting great things from this squad and cannot wait to play the home-opener Nov. 20 against East Kentucky at the Great Plains Coliseum.
