Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers continue their series against the Las Vegas Aviators at 7:05 p.m. on a $2 Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...The Dodgers look to snap a four-game losing skid and even their series with the Aviators in the lone Triple-A game scheduled across Minor League Baseball...Each team currently leads its division in the Pacific Coast League.
Last Game: An eight-run fourth inning by the Las Vegas Aviators broke open Monday night's game as they sent the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a 12-4 loss in the series opener between the teams at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Aviators scored a run in the first inning and Oklahoma City evened the score in the third inning when Zach McKinstry connected on a RBI ground-rule double. The Aviators quickly responded with eight runs in the fourth inning, including a three-run homer by Austin Allen and a three-run triple by Luis Barrera. Allen hit his second homer in as many innings, adding a two-run shot in the fifth inning, before the Aviators tacked on another run in the seventh inning. The Dodgers scored three runs over their final two at-bats with Michael Busch hitting a two-run homer in the eighth inning before back-to-back doubles in the ninth inning by Hunter Feduccia and Drew Avans brought in the final run for OKC.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Jon Duplantier (4-0) makes a third straight start after beginning the season in the bullpen...Duplantier last pitched June 30 in El Paso, starting and throwing four-plus innings. He allowed two runs and two hits with three walks and three strikeouts and did not factor into the decision of OKC's 7-2 win. It was his longest outing of the season, and he left the game after facing one batter in the fifth inning...He is tied for the third-most wins on the team and opponents have batted just .192 against him. Right-handed batters are hitting just .130, but lefties are hitting .283. He's holding all batters to a .185 clip with runners on base...Duplantier was selected by the Dodgers from the Giants in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft Dec. 8, 2021 after he had signed with the Giants just four days prior as a minor league free agent...In 2021, he made a combined seven appearances with Arizona and Triple-A Reno before suffering a season-ending lat strain July 10 against Las Vegas...He was selected in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft by Arizona out of Rice University...Duplantier made two appearances against Las Vegas last season while pitching with Reno. He made one start and one relief appearance, allowing a combined five runs and six hits over 2.0 innings with two walks and one strikeout.
Against the Aviators: 2022: 0-1 2021: 4-7 All-time: 52-63 At OKC: 24-30 Oklahoma City and Las Vegas are meeting for their only series against one another during the 2022 season...This marks their first meeting since competing in the Triple-A Final Stretch Sept. 23-27, 2021 in Las Vegas with OKC winning the five-game set, 3-2, despite losing the final two games of the series. It was OKC's first series win against Las Vegas since 2015...The Aviators won the 2021 season series, 7-4, as they won a six-game series at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, 5-1, in August...Anthony Bemboom had a team-best 12 hits in the 2021 season series while Matt Davidson - currently playing for the Aviators - racked up a team-leading 13 RBI, including four homers...The teams' offenses were almost identical throughout the season series, with OKC edging Las Vegas in hits, 107-106, and the Aviators edging OKC in runs, 66-65. The Aviators hit 17 homers, while the Dodgers hit 14...Since the start of the 2021 season, the road team is 9-3 over the last 12 games between the clubs.
Running Free: Las Vegas scored eight runs in the fourth inning Monday for the most runs allowed by the Dodgers in an inning this season and the most runs allowed by the team in a single inning since July 7, 2019 when they allowed eight runs in the fourth inning of a home game against Round Rock in OKC...The Dodgers have now allowed at least 11 runs in four straight games (53 total runs), including 12 or more runs in each of the last three games. It is the first time in OKC's Bricktown era (since 1998) that the team has allowed double-digit runs in four straight games...After allowing an opponent to score double-digit runs just once in a 25-game span from May 31-June 28, the Dodgers have now allowed double-digit run totals in five of the last six games, as El Paso scored 14 runs Wednesday, 11 runs Friday, 18 runs Saturday/Sunday in a suspended game and 12 more runs Sunday...Prior to Wednesday's game, the Dodgers had a 4.42 ERA and opponents were batting .240 for the season. Since then, the Dodgers have a 12.38 ERA (66 ER/48.0 IP) and opponents have batted .350 (75x214), swelling their season numbers to a 4.96 ERA and .249 BAA. On Sunday alone their ERA rose from 4.58 to 4.88. And over the nine games leading into June 29, the Dodgers had a 3.38 ERA (30 ER/80.0 IP), holding their opponent three runs or less six times and to six hits or less seven times, with opponents batting .181 (40x221)...Following a 6-3 win in El Paso June 28, the team's run differential was +111 for the season. In the six games since, the Dodgers have been outscored by 40 runs, whittling down their season run differential to +71...Since play resumed Sunday in El Paso, opponents are 34-for-88 (.386) with 38 runs and 19 walks in 19 total innings, including 18-for-34 (.529) with runners in scoring position. In contrast, OKC has gone 17-for-74 (.230) with seven runs.
Skid Marks: The Dodgers have now suffered four straight losses for the first time this season and for the first time since a five-game losing skid Aug. 23-28, 2021. Between May 28-June 30, the Dodgers had followed up each of their nine previous losses with a win and had not even lost consecutive games...The Dodgers still own the best record in the PCL, but their lead ahead of second-place El Paso in the East Division has been whittled down to 2.0 games.
Zach Attack: Zach McKinstry opened a Major League Rehab Assignment with OKC Monday night after being placed on the Los Angeles Dodgers Injured List June 28 with neck stiffness. He went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI before Ty Kelly replaced him in the eighth inning. It was McKinstry's first game with OKC since June 18. He appeared in two games for the Los Angeles Dodgers after being recalled June 19 and before his injury...Over six stints with OKC this season, McKinstry is batting .333 with 23 RBI, 27 walks and 35 runs scored in 47 games. He ranks among PCL league leaders in AVG (2nd) and OBP (3rd, .417). Yesterday was his 21st multi-hit game in 47 contests with OKC.
Buschwhacked: Michael Busch went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI Monday. He has now homered in two of his last three games, three of his last seven games, six of his last 13 games and eight of his last 18 games. He has 10 home runs with OKC and 21 home runs overall this season to lead the Dodgers minor league system. He is one of nine players in the Minors with at least 21 homers this season...Since playing his first game with OKC May 17, Busch's 10 homers are second-most among OKC players, his 40 hits are second-most on the team and his 31 RBI are tied for second most. Also during the same span, his 10 homers are tied for fourth-most in the league while his 31 RBI and 80 total bases are tied for sixth...Over his last 20 games, Busch is 24-for-84 (.286) with 13 extra-base hits and has tallied at least one extra-base hit in 12 of his last 19 games.
Drew Point: Drew Avans connected on a RBI double in the ninth inning Monday night as he reached base in a season-best 19th straight game, tying Miguel Vargas for the longest on-base streak by an OKC player this season. Avans' streak is tied for the third-longest active streak in the league, and he has now reached base safely in 33 of his last 34 games...Avans is also on a season-best six-game hitting streak (8x25) and he has hit safely 16 of his last 19 games, batting .319 (23x72)...Avans is tied for the league lead with six triples this season...Since May 26 (31 games), Avans is slashing .319/.429/.526 with 37 hits, 28 runs, 20 walks and 17 RBI.
Clearance at JMart: Jason Martin went 0-for-3 with a walk last night, marking the second time in the last nine games he was held without a hit (11x34)...Martin has five homers in his last seven games and six homers in his last nine games, as his 16 home runs leads the Dodgers and are tied for fourth-most in the PCL...Since June 5, Martin is batting .326 (28x86) over 23 games with 24 RBI. Eighteen of his 28 hits have gone for extra bases, and during that stretch, he leads the league with a .791 SLG and 1.201 OPS and is tied for the league lead with 10 homers...For the season, his 37 total extra-base hits pace the Dodgers and are tied for second-most among PCL players. Martin's .980 OPS is third in the league, while his 53 runs and five triples are tied for third, his .598 SLG and 55 RBI are fourth and his 144 total bases are tied for fourth.
Gettin' Miggy With It: Since his season-best 14-game hitting streak was snapped Sunday, Miguel Vargas is 0-for-8 in his last two games, marking first time since late May he has not collected a hit in consecutive games (a span of 32 games)...During the hitting streak, Vargas went 23-for-56 (.411) with three homers, seven doubles, 14 RBI, eight walks and 13 runs scored. The streak is tied with Jake Lamb's 14-game streak for the longest by an OKC player this season...Vargas paces the PCL with 89 hits and 66 runs scored, while his 154 total bases rank second, his 38 RBI are third, his 34 extra-base hits are tied for fourth, his 18 doubles are tied for fourth and his 42 walks are sixth.
Two-sday: Tonight's game between the Dodgers and Aviators is just one of two games scheduled across all of full-season Minor League Baseball, with the other between Frisco and San Antonio of the Double-A Texas League. On Sunday, the Dodgers and Aviators will be the only teams not playing among the 120 full-season clubs. (Frisco and San Antonio are not playing tomorrow.)
Around the Horn: The Dodgers are 5-2 in Game 2 of a series after losing the series opener (2-1 at home). They have not started a series 0-2 since May 5 against Albuquerque and have avoided an 0-2 hole each of the last four times they've dropped a series opener...The Dodgers pitching staff notched 14 strikeouts, tying their season high for a nine-inning game (April 22 at SAC)...Last night Austin Allen became the third opponent in as many games to hit two homers against OKC...The Dodgers are in the midst of a stretch of 15 straight games against West Division foes. OKC is 11-11 against the West Division this season, including 4-6 at home. The Dodgers are 12-22 at home against West Division opponents over the last two seasons...Opponents have scored in either the first or second inning in each of the last 11 games. Over the 11-game stretch, the Dodgers have allowed 30 total runs over the first two innings (22 innings). Opponents have scored in the first inning in four straight games (12 R) and five of the last six games (14 R)...The Dodgers play their 80th game of the season tonight. Regardless of the result, the team's 47 wins are the most through 80 games since going 53-27 at the 80-game mark in 2015.
