St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (April 26, 2007) - It was May of 1993 and the St. Paul Saints captivated the Twin Cities area with their outdoor ballpark, fan friendly atmosphere and of course, their crazy promotions. Fast forward 15 years and the Saints kick off their 15th season at Midway Stadium with the "Year of the Pig."

The high jinx and chicanery associated with the Saints is once again in full effect with a crowd-pleasing promotional schedule. With this being the Year of the Pig on the Chinese calendar the Saints will take full advantage of that at Midway Stadium with tributes to their famous pig mascots and famous celebrity pigs such as Porky, Miss Piggy and George Clooney's late pot-bellied pig, Max.

The schedule is highlighted with some incredible sights that are sure to make you take notice. It begins during the exhibition season with the Saints Largest Promotion on Sunday, May 6. Dave Rasmussen, who works for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will become the tallest professional baseball player ever when the 7'3" Wisconsinite dons a Saints jersey.

On Thursday, May 17 the Saints will bring back what they learned from their ten-day tour of Japan last October, with Japanese Heritage Night. All fans will be asked to remove their shoes prior to entering the ballpark and will be provided with slippers to wear for the evening.

On Monday, June 11 the Saints honor those in the space program with their Pigs in Space evening. The Saints will take an in depth look at the highs and lows of our space program. The evening is highlighted with a diaper drive which will be donated to local shelters and charities.

The Saints Go Green: An Inconvenient Ballgame presented by the US Water Services on Sunday, July 8. On the heels of Al Gore's successful Emmy run with his movie, the Saints will do their part on this day.

Michael Flatley would be proud (or embarrassed) as the Saints perform "Liverdance" at Midway Stadium on August 1.

Traditional staples and fun giveaways will still be in effect with such promotions as Dog Day on Saturday, May 5, Mudonna Hula Doll Giveaway on Tuesday, June 12 and a July 6 fireworks extravaganza: a Tribute to Unsung Heroes presented by TDS Metrocom. There are a total of three post-game fireworks displays scheduled: May 27, July 6 and August 22. Former Master of Ceremonies Rusty Kath gets his own tribute night with, "I heart Rusty" on August 7 presented by the University of Minnesota-Morris. The first 2,500 fans in attendance receive a Rusty bobblejaw.
