Oilers Maintain Historic Title Feat

May 5, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

The Tulsa Oilers remain the only current Central Hockey League franchise to win the league championship in their first season, which the Oilers accomplished in the 1992-93 season.

The Rapid City Rush ended the Allen Americans bid to equal the Oilers' feat with a 4-3 double overtime victory Tuesday night in Rapid City. The win gives the Rush the Ray Miron President's Cup four games to two.

Only one other CHL team, the Indianapolis Ice, won the league championship in its first season in the CHL in 1999-2000. Indianapolis departed the CHL following the 2003-04 season.

Rapid City joins a lengthy list of teams to take the title in year two. Other championship teams in their second season include the Wichita Thunder in 1993-94; Columbus Cottonmouths in 1997-98; Laredo Bucks in 2003-04; Colorado Eagles in 2005-06; Arizona Sundogs in 2007-08; Texas Brahmas (second year back from suspending operations as the Fort Worth Brahmas and not competing in 2006-07) in 2008-09.

The Oilers had the second highest point total increase in the CHL this season under head coach Bruce Ramsay, who was in his first season with the Oilers. They will have 32 home games at the BOK Center in the 2010-11 season.

Season tickets for 2010-11 with plans for as low as $26 a month are now available by calling the Oilers office at 918-632-PUCK (7825).
