Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League made their first-ever trip to Laredo last night, but the Bucks were inhospitable hosts and handed the Oilers a 6-4 loss. Despite the loss, the Oilers (30-17-5) are still holding down the first-place spot in the Northwest Division standings with 65 points, two points ahead of the Oklahoma City Blazers (30-17-3) and the Amarillo Gorillas (31-17-1). However, Tulsa has played two more games than the Blazers and three more than the Gorillas.
The game got off to a good start for the Oilers, as forward Pat Hallett scored at the 7:48 mark of the first period to give Tulsa the early 1-0 advantage. The lead was short-lived, as Chris Greenville scored for Laredo just over a minute later to make the score 1-1 after one period of play.
Greenville scored his second goal of the night at the 7:53 mark of the second to give the Bucks their first lead of the game. The Oilers answered minutes later when defenseman Jorin Welsh hammered home a power play goal. The third period belonged to the Bucks, as they outscored the Oilers 4-2 in the period. Oilers forwards Derek Toninato and Justin Ossachuk each scored third-period goals for Tulsa.
Next up for the Oilers is a trip to Corpus Christi on Friday night as they face the Rayz for the first time this season at 7:05. The Rayz (24-25-2) sit in third place in the Southeast Division with 50 points and were beaten 2-1 last night by the Austin Ice Bats. Friday's Oilers - Rayz game can be heard live on the radio at AM 1300 The Score, or on the Internet at www.tulsaoilers.com.
Tulsa's next home game will be on Wednesday, February 26th, when they host the Indianapolis Ice. Tickets for next Wednesday's game are available at local Drug Marts, the Tulsa Convention Center Box Office, the Oilers office, or by phone at 584-2000.
