Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings dropped a 5-2 decision to the visiting Spokane Chiefs on Sunday afternoon at Rogers Place.

The Oil Kings and Chiefs went back-and-forth in the first period and landed in a 2-2 tie at the first intermission.

The Oil Kings raced out to a 2-0 lead after Marc Lajoie scored twice in the span of 2:13.

His first goal came after he collected a pass at the Spokane blueline, raced into the left-circle and ripped a shot over the left-pad of Dawson Cowan.

Lajoie's second goal at the 7:44 mark of the period came on a 5-on-3 power play for the Oil Kings after he took a pass in the right-circle and blasted a shot past Cowan for his team-leading 14th of the season. The goal was also Lajoie's ninth power play marker of the season, moving him into a tie with Simon Kubicek for the most by an Oil Kings defenceman in a single season.

The Chiefs pulled themselves off the mat quickly as Berkly Catton notched a shorthanded goal just 40 seconds after the Oil Kings took a 2-0 lead, and then Shea Van Olm tied the game just over a minute later finishing on a centering feed from Owen Martin.

In the second period, the Chiefs would get the lone goal to take a 3-2 lead into the third period.

Stony Plain, AB product Ty Cheveldayoff supplied the go-ahead goal for the Chiefs with 5:27 left in the middle stanza with a perfectly placed shot from the right-circle that went in off the far post.

In the third period, Conner Roulette increased the Spokane lead to 4-2 at the 13:13 mark, and then Van Olm hit the empty net for his second of the game to salt away the win for the visitors.

The Oil Kings fired 13 shots on the Spokane net in the third period but were unable to solve Cowan for a third time.

Hudson Perry finished the afternoon making 25 saves for the Oil Kings while Cowan turned in 37 for the Chiefs. Edmonton went 1-for-3 on the power play, Spokane was 0-for-2.
