
Oil Kings Acquire Pair from Broncos

(Edmonton, AB) - President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kirt Hill announced today the Edmonton Oil Kings have acquired defenceman Jacson Alexander, defenceman Chad Smithson and a sixth-round pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for centre Matthew Culling, defenceman Chase Lacombe, a fourth-round pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft and a second-round pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
Alexander, 17, recorded 5 points (1G, 4A) and 6 penalty minutes in 32 regular season games and 1 assist in 26 playoff appearances with the Broncos last season winning the 2018 WHL Championship. The Victoria, BC native was drafted by the Broncos in the first round (17th overall) of the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.
In addition to his time with the Broncos, Alexander also represented Canada on the international stage at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge playing on Team Canada Black with 1 assist in 5 games played. He also attended Hockey Canada's 2018 National Men's Summer Under-18 Selection Camp this past July in Calgary.
Smithson, 17, spent the 2017-18 season with the Winnipeg Thrashers Midget AAA (MMHL) picking up 13 points (6G, 7A) and 17 penalty minutes in 41 games played.
