North Bay Battalion News Release

NORTH BAY, Ont. - Anthony Romani of the North Bay Battalion has been named the Ontario Hockey League's Player of the Week for the period ended Sunday.

Right winger Romani scored five goals and earned one assist for six points as the Battalion split a pair of home games, defeating the Flint Firebirds 6-4 Sunday after losing 7-6 Thursday night to the Mississauga Steelheads.

Romani netted three goals, including the winner at 6:35 of the third period, against Flint. His first three-goal game in the OHL pushed his plus-minus rating for the week to plus-7.

The 18-year-old Pickering, Ont., resident scored two goals and added an assist against Mississauga, representing his fifth two-goal game.

Romani, who measures six-foot-one and 184 pounds, was a third-round pick, 41st overall, in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens U16s.

In 130 games over two-plus seasons, he has 39 goals and 33 assists for 72 points. He registered 23 goals and 20 assists for 43 points in 66 games in 2022-23.

Romani, who attended the rookie camp of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes in September as a non-roster invitee, has a team-leading eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 10 games, ranking fifth in the OHL in goals.

"Anthony has had a great start to the season," said general manager Adam Dennis. "He and his linemates, Dalyn Wakely and Owen Van Steensel, have shown great chemistry and have got stronger every game they've played.

"Anthony, who's played an important role for our team in each of the last two seasons, has been waiting for this added responsibility and role for some time now. We feel it's safe to say that his time is now and he's adjusting to the new role quite nicely.

"We look forward to seeing him and his linemates add to this achievement."

Centre Wakely, who had two goals and five assists for seven points in two games, also received consideration for the award. He leads the Troops in points with four goals and a team-high 12 assists, tied for third in the league, for 16 points in 10 games.

Former Battalion left winger Matvey Petrov, now with the Bakersfield Condors, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, was honoured for the period ended Nov. 6 last season.
