Ohio State Defeats U.S. National Under-18 Team, 3-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y.) and Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Mass.) each tallied goals, but the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell, 3-2, to the Ohio State Buckeyes in front of 2,012 fans at Value City Arena Friday night.

"We started slowly, but I was happy with the resiliency and fortitude we showed in the second and third period," said John Hynes, head coach of the U.S. National Under-18 Team. "We will try to build upon this game as we move forward."

Ohio State recorded the only two goals of the first period, as John Dingle scored at 2:02, and Sergio Somma chipped in a power-play marker at the 9:15 mark.

After a scoreless second frame, Morin put Team USA on the board at 9:34 of the third stanza with an unassisted tally.

Nick Biondo scored the eventual game-winning goal at 16:59, thanks to an assist from former NTDP player, John Albert.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team made it a one-goal when Bourque lit up the scoreboard at the 18:03 mark. During a power play, Team USA pulled netminder Joe Cannata (Wakefield, Mass.) to gain a 6-on-4 advantage, which set up Bourque's scoring sequence. Morin and Jordan Schroeder (Prior Lake, Minn.) contributed assists on the goal.

Neither team scored again, allowing OSU to escape with the victory.

Cannata made 32 saves for Team USA, while Dustin Carlson stopped 23 shots for the Buckeyes.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team (14-14-1-1) is off until Tuesday, January 22, when it will host Adrian College at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Team USA then travels to Marquette, Mich., for a matchup with Northern Michigan University at the Berry Events Center on Saturday, January 26. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. ET..

Notes: Jeremy Morin (one goal, one assist), Ryan Bourque (one goal) and Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.) each made their first appearances with the U.S. National Under-18 Team ... Jordan Schroeder now has 20 points (7-13) on the season, which is tied for first among Team USA players ... The U.S. National Under-18 Team is 1-1-0 all-time against Ohio State.
