Marquette Rangers News Release
Alpena - Northern Lights Arena in Alpena has not been a popular spot for the Marquette Rangers in 2007 - 2008.
Friday night, the home magic again was in full force for the Alpena IceDiggers as they coasted past the Rangers for a 3-0 North American Hockey League North Division win.
"Alpena played well" said Rangers head coach Randy Enders.
"They buried their chances when they had them and played well defensively in front of their goaltender all night long. We never really got going and they took advantage of that."
"We knew it would be a tough weekend, it always is when we play Alpena so we'll re-group and come out strong Saturday get what we can out of the rest of the weekend."
Alpena got all the scoring they would need on the night at 16:54 of the first period when Ryan Timar lit the lamp behind Rangers goaltender Matt Brooker. Tyler Pilmore and Bryan Ross assisted as the first period ended 1-0 in favor of the home team.
Alpena got insurance goals in the second and third periods from Erik Peterson and Russell Anderson respectively to ice the win and give goaltender Nick Graves the shutout victory.
Graves stopped all 19 Rangers shots he faced on the evening, while Marquette's Brooker made 25 saves on 28 IceDigger shots on the night.
With the win, Alpena has moved into a second place tie with Marquette with 42 points on the season. The two teams are one point up on fourth place Mahoning Valley who lost at home Friday night to the U.S. National Team Development Program 3-2.
With the win, Alpena also improves its' record against Marquette to 6-3 on the season, with the 10th matchup of the year set for Saturday night at Northern Lights Arena, the puck drops at 7:05 PM.
