Official selected for ArenaBowl XIX
June 7, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Veteran Arena Football League official BILL MCCABE has been selected to referee the league's championship game, ArenaBowl XIX Las Vegas, on Sunday, June 12.
McCabe, who has been an AFL official for 15 years, will be participating in his fourth ArenaBowl Championship game and his third as referee. He last refereed an ArenaBowl in 2002.
Line judge DAVE CHESNEY, a 12-year AFL veteran, will be officiating his fifth ArenaBowl game and umpire RICK NELSON will be calling his second league championship contest.
Two members of the officiating crew, head linesman ROYCE COOLEY and back judge DINO PAGANELLI, will each be working their first ArenaBowl. Paganelli's brother, Carl, was the umpire in Super Bowl XXXIX when New England defeated Philadelphia.
Referee STEVE PAMON, a four-year AFL official, will serve as the alternate.
"Just as the Georgia Force and Colorado Crush have earned the right to play in ArenaBowl XIX, the officials have also earned the right to call this game," said Jerry Trice, the AFL's Vice President of Football Operations. "These men have consistently graded out the highest during the regular season and have earned this honor."
The AFL uses a grading system during the course of the regular season to determine the top ranked officials at each position. The highest-graded individuals are selected for the honor of officiating the league's championship game.
