LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Los Angeles Avengers' lineman SILAS DEMARY (6-3, 285, Virginia State) was named the Arena Football League's 2005 ADT Defensive Player of the Year today in a vote of the league's head coaches, fans and the Arena Football League Writers Association (AFLWA). The announcement was made live on ESPNews.
Demary, who was named the AFL's Lineman of the Year last week, set a new league season record with 13.5 quarterback sacks while recording 26.0 total tackles, two pass breakups, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries on the season.
The five-year veteran posted 12.5 sacks over his team's final eight games, including a team record 4.0 against the New York Dragons on April 10, to break the old league record of 13.0 sacks set by Craig Walls of the Pittsburgh Gladiators in 1987.
