
Offense Leads Wings Past Thunder

HARLINGEN, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings used a four run sixth inning led by Thomas Shull and Fidel Hernandez to hit past the Texas Thunder 7-3 Saturday night at Harlingen Field.
Shull hit a one out single when Fidel Hernandez executed a hit and run that scored Shull from second giving the Wings an early 1-0 lead.
Joseph Hicks led off the top of the second inning with a long triple. Hicks would later score on a fielder's choice tying the game at 1-1 even. In the top of the third inning the Thunder would take a 3-1 lead both runs scored off of fielders choices.
Starting pitcher A.J Smouse (4-1) settled down after a rocky start pacing the offense to five hits and three runs. Smouse got his fourth win of the year finishing with three strike outs through seven innings of work.
The Wings would head to the sixth inning, dead locked at three runs even when the bats of Thomas Shull and Fidel Hernandez led the charge, with back to back hits scoring four runs total giving the Wings a 7-2 lead.
Starting second basemen Fidel Hernandez shined in his WhiteWings debut going 3-for-5 at the plate and collecting a pair of RBI's. Thomas Shull also went 3-for-5 collecting three RBI's.
Game two of the series is set for Sunday at Harlingen Field. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
