Amarillo Bulls News Release
Amarillo, TX - Three Bulls players earned their first career goals as the Amarillo Bulls edged out the Odessa Jackalopes in a 6-5 thriller on Friday night.
The scoring did not take long to begin as Jordan Venegoni gave the Bulls the lead with his eighth goal of the season after speeding his way to the back post and tucking home the puck. The Jackalopes would find their answer when Matt Clark and Nick Grimaldi would net goals to give Odessa the 2-1 lead. Amarillo would tie the game when Matt Allen tucked home a powerplay feed from Noah Carlin for his 11th tally on the season.
The second period picked up where the first left off, with more scoring coming for both sides. Isaiah Heumpfner gave the Jackalopes the 3-2 lead and kicked off a scoring frenzy for both teams. Niclas Puikkonen would bring Amarillo level with his fourth goal of the season, before Joshua Burke gave the Bulls the lead with his first career goal.
The next four goals scored would be alternating between the two teams, with Connor Scahill and Jan Blasko each answering Amarillo goals. The Bulls goals were both first career goals for Oliver Bezick and Nick Stapleton, with Stapleton's goal being the deciding sixth goal.
"It's really exciting to see three of our guys pick up their first North American Hockey League goals," said Rocky Russo, the head coach of the Bulls. "The guys on the bench were really excited and happy for them."
The win lifts the second place Bulls to a 14-4-1-2 record and has helped secure their standings position with a total of 31 points.
The Bulls remain the Budweiser Bull Pen on Saturday, November 23 to take on the Odessa Jackalopes. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
