CAMDEN, NJ- Monday was Medical Professionals Night at Campbell's Field, and Long Island starting pitcher Abe Alvarez could not find a cure for a potent Riversharks lineup.
The Sharks took the lead in the third. Down 1-0, first baseman Tyler Von Schell poked a bases loaded, two-run single to left. Catcher Alberto Castillo immediately followed with a three-run homer.
They added two more in the fourth. Second baseman Shaun Boyd shot an RBI double to center and scored on an L.J. Biernbaum single two batters later.
Alvarez was pulled after 3 2/3 innings. He allowed eight hits and seven earned runs. Reliever Travis Wade allowed a sac fly to designated hitter Cody Collet in the fifth.
Camden starter Jake Dittler (1-2) went seven innings and surrendered just five hits and two runs for the win. Alvarez (5-1) caught the loss.
The series continues tomorrow with Caring For Kids Night at Campbell's Field. Tickets are available at www.riversharks.com or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.
