(York, Pa): The York Revolution has announced that right-handed relief pitcher Nick McCurdy has had his contract purchased by the Florida Marlins of the National League. McCurdy becomes the fourth Revolution player this season to sign with a Major League Baseball organization. Infielder Kenny Perez signed with the defending National League Champion Colorado Rockies on June 2, right-handed starting pitcher Dave Gassner signed with the defending World Series Champion Boston Red Sox on June 4 and right-handed reliever Heath Totten signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 22.

McCurdy cemented his role as closer for York by the mid-way point of the 2008 season. In 37 appearances on the mound, all in relief, the Alabama native notched eight saves while holding opponents to a .231 average against. In 53.0 innings pitched, McCurdy gave up just 46 hits, struck out 60 and walked only 11. At the time of his signing, he was 1-2 with a 2.31 ERA.

McCurdy spent the previous six seasons in the Baltimore Orioles organization, pitching at Double-A and Triple-A in 2006 and 2007. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 3.93 ERA in 240 games in the Orioles farm system, which included 41 starts. Last season he pitched at Norfolk (AAA, International League) and Bowie (AA, Eastern League), where he posted an impressive 1.66 ERA in 29 Double-A outings.

He showed versatility as well, notching three saves in relief while also making two starts in 2007. For his efforts in 2008, McCurdy was one of four Revs selected to represent York in the Atlantic League All-Star game, hosted by the Somerset Patriots on July 16. McCurdy pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save in an 8-6 Freedom Division victory.

In 2007 the Revolution led the Atlantic League in players signed to Major League Baseball organizations, with six throughout the season.
